“…Where to begin? Because this is a lyric with quite the background. Let’s begin with saying that I have a certain attraction to strange words. Similarly for the word ‘Abominous’, for when something is just that little bit extra horrific. This isn’t something I put into my lyrics per say, but more something that I have stored in the back of my mind.

After that, I drew inspiration from a TV show and the way the text developed came from a documentary. In the TV show, there was a mixed couple that were expecting a baby in a town where this wasn’t accepted by the residents. During a confrontation with a group of men that have a limitation in their behavior, the following statement was said: “Abominous breeds abominations”. It was a terrible thing in that particular scene and setting, but the sentence was cool.

Then, after watching a documentary about serial killers, something snapped into place regarding the storyline for the lyrics. What if you are truly an abominable person and by what you do, you create abominations? Lots of serial killers have a certain preference regarding their victims. That makes it a lot more scary then when there is no preference. And thus the base of the song was created.

In Abominous Abominate there are parts of the song that are told ‘towards you’ (as if you are his victim) and there are parts that tell what is happening on the sidelines. And something in between. Not all of our songs have such a deep background and this isn’t a word-for-word explanation of what the song is about. It’s more a glimpse of the story behind the song. The rest we will leave to the imagination of the listener…”
